Eastern provinces in Atlantic Canada – Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island!

Maritimes – the place where Canada began. We will walk on the bottom of the ocean in Bay of Fundy, hike in Cape Breton, visit Green Gables (from “Anne of Green Gables”), famous red cliffs in Cavendish, sandy beaches, magic Peggy’s Cove – we will spend 11 days admiring the beauty of Eastern Canada!

Where does Canada begin? It begins on the eastern lands on the Atlantic coast - which from time immemorial used to belong to Mi’kmaq tribe, nowadays almost completely forgotten by everybody. Charlottetown, the capital of the smallest Canadian province (Prince Edward Island), is a place where in 1864 during the Charlottetown Conference the representatives of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec decided on the Canadian Confederation, the new country on the map of the world. The island itself, known mostly because of ginger-haired flibbertigibbet Anne Shirley, the heroin of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novels, is a red land full of iron with beautiful sandy beaches, over thirty charming miniature lighthouses, cliff coast, the best potatoes in the North American continent and excellent Cows ice cream produced from the milk of local cows.

Visiting Prince Edward Island is a little like returning to the childhood. Suddenly you see a peaceful, vast, wheat-golden world from the books you used to read on long autumn evening which became real thanks to the child’s imagination. Entering the house on the Green Gables is a magical moment for thousands of women; each of them becomes a little girl again, who plays with invisible friends and daydreams all day long. The natural beauty and slow rhythm of the island will enchant everyone, even those who used to like reading Tom Sawyer books. Surely the lovers of lobsters would like to stay here a bit longer! For many years lobsters were regarded as the food of the poor, they used to be eaten by the prisoners, and a lobster sandwich for lunch used to be hated by most of the island children. All fuss about lobster, its refinement and appearance in the menu of the high social class can be regarded as the reaffirmation of the saying that things are worth as much as somebody can pay for them. In fact, lobsters are sold at horrendous prices nowadays. When you travel so far away, it is worth tasting this delicacy from the sea.

The greatest attraction of New Brunswick is the Bay of Fundy, which is known for its world highest tidal range. A walk on the bottom of the ocean among the isolated rocks called flowerpots can change after a few hours into a kayak ride.

Above all, Nova Scotia means a tiny picturesque Peggy’s Cove village with a white lighthouse standing alone on a rocky rugged cliff in Lunenburg - the place where the most famous Canadian sailboat, Bluenose, was made. The additional attraction of our expedition will be a visit to the most beautiful Canadian cities: Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City, as well as a boat trip on Saint Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands Park, which inspired such artists and writers as Leonard Cohen and Charles Dickens.
